Weather & Swell forecasts for Oban

Lots of choice.

Essential you check the timing. Often it looks like its not going to be a good day in the general synopsis and then the wet weather moves through quicker than expected and at least part of the day ends up superb.

The BBC website can show the cloud moving across which is really useful, but the general 5 day for Oban is just too general to be meaningful . Accu Weather for the Firth of Lorn is perhaps more useful for the Sea Kayaker. For the long range check out the wetter centrum 9 day forecast. This can also be found via the surf index Coldswell . This forecast gives a good idea of the temperature of the air mass thats going to affect us, which for 9 days time is more realistic than most other projections. Also on the coldswell site are links to various surf forecasts or at least swell forecasts. These can be fairly accurate for a few days hence as the waves may already have been generated somewhere off in the blue yonder and are already heading our way. One of the most popular seems to be Magic Seaweed. There are others that some people love, but this may be because they are the most optimistic.

I have yet to understand why the Metcheck forecast for our white water kayaking base in Aberfeldy is always 5-10 degrees too cold.

So its forecast to be High pressure for the next week or so and then moving towards a northerly damp airstream ie snow. Until then it looks like West is Best so Sea Kayak Oban.
